Encrypted QAM taping via SA3250HD

NICE!

So I got the new cable box today and I am able to tape from channel say 184, which is not HD, but is part of the digital cable lineup that TW sends encrypted. So after following TWs instructions, I got myself a SA3250HD v2.1 box with firewire enabled and it works like a champ(at least from the command line, I may have some work to do in Myth yet)..

Anyhow, just thought you'd like to know!

details!??? You're getting encrypted channels delivered over firewire? I'm very curious about this! If it's 5C, then there's no way. Unless, you've got the DVI/HDMI port on it connected to an HDCP compliant TV or monitor..then I believe it opens up everything. So...details on what you're seeing? Can you get ch 290 (ESPNHD) over FW?

Is this over firewire or SVideo? Come on man, you can't posting something as ambiguous as that and then just leave!!!!!

Ok, apparently I cannot get 290, but that appears to be because its a subscription service to which I do not subscribe. But let me check some of the other channels not listed as unencrytped in this area. Results soon!

Firewire appears flaky at best right now, but again, this may be a problem with the idiot at the keyboard. I havent gotten anything back after my initial tests, but Im still trying...

OK, are you certain you were getting the feed over Firewire and not recording the SVideo feed?
The FW signal really has nothing to do with QAM. It's a totally different animal. The stream delivered over FW has one of 3 possible flags on it:
1 - Copy freely
2 - Copy once
3 - Copy never
Now, if the stream is being fed to soething that does not understand the 5c encryption, the signal is killed if the stream has anything other than a Copy Freely flag on it. For a while, TWC had all channels <199 set to Copy Freely. Then, I have no clue why, but they set the copy once flag on EVERYTHING except the 4 networks. Bastards!

...by the way, you see my latest couple of updates over on mine? It's been hectic!

Well I know its not Svideo, the cable goes into the STB then coax into the TV. The only connect to the HTPC is via the firewire. I can change the channels on the STB via CLI commands, so its definitely connected(when its connected;-( ) via the firewire. Im actually using the Svideo in on the TV for the HTPC as I do have it hooked to a TV now(not HD though). It just appears to flake out after channel changes, though it appears this is a known issue. I do not know yet if there is a fix.

Oh, and I have been able to watch and tape stuff in both the 200s and 300s via the FW.
